Welcome to the Chip Lake Road information website, owned and operated by Laricina Energy Ltd.
Originally built and owned by the Alberta Pacific Forestry Industries Inc. (Al-Pac), the road has played a vital role in facilitating commercial and industrial development in the area. Currently the road is an essential transportation corridor for industry, the Wabasca community and local trappers.
In December 2012 Laricina Energy Ltd. obtained a 40 percent ownership in the road from Shell Canada officially becoming both an owner and an operator of the road. In this role Laricina continues to be dedicated to the continuous maintenance of the road, and stewarding the safe operations of the road for all users. Our commitment to the safety of our operations has prompted the replacement of the first five single-lane bridges at kilometers 1, 13, 37, 54 and 60 throughout 2012, and the grading and re-graveling of significant portions of the road from kilometer zero to kilometer 76.
This website was created to facilitate the flow of information between Laricina and all our road users by providing timely and up to date information on road closures, road upgrades and other road news and documentation concerning our users.
There is a wildfire near the Chip Lake Road that is classified by Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD) as Out of Control. ESRD has been working to establish a guard across the south end of the fire from North Wabasca Lake to the Chip Lake Road.
Laricina has been in contact with ESRD. At this time there are no road closures for the Chip Lake Road. Laricina will distribute an update to road users if the status is changed.
