Strategy

Laricina’s operations strategy includes the following principles:

Laricina is pursuing in situ or drillable oil sands.
  • Pursue opportunities in less mature, underdeveloped and less competitive areas of Alberta’s oil sands region;
  • Focus on in situ development to lever technology advancements and reduce threshold scale, capital requirements and environmental footprint;
  • Adopt practices and methodologies that create efficiencies in plant design and construction;
  • Work to achieve commercially viable carbonate production model in order to access a vast, undeveloped resource;
  • Maintain high working interests and operational control of projects;
  • Work continually on advancing in situ technologies, pursue technical excellence internally, and internalize outside technology advancements, in order to maximize chances of success, productivity, resource recoveries, economics and environmental protection;
  • Apply technologies and processes that reduce capital intensity and/or operating costs per barrel recovered;
  • Minimize environmental footprint and work to achieve environmental improvements;
  • Prepare and submit thorough, rigorous, technically excellent regulatory applications;
  • Pursue timely pilot developments to maintain operational momentum and move towards commercial production; and
  • Engage local communities, including through hiring of local contractors, in order to demonstrate benefits of oil sands development to area residents and reduce risks of project disruption.
